Interview Tips to Assist You in Getting Your Ideal Job

By Louisa Anderson

This article gives some useful hints on how to find your ideal job. As the job market is now even more competitive than ever, you need to give employers every reason to pick you when you get to the important stage of being invited for a job interview.

The first 30 seconds of a job interview are very important. Here are a few helpful tips on what to expect and how to prepare for your job interview.

Job Interview checklist

1. Make sure you double check the time, date and location of your job interview

2. Plan your route the day before, eg if you are being interviewed for a job in Chichester you could get a route map from google maps so you can pin point the place to be before hand, or even make a trip there the day before to avoid any stress on the day

3. Research the job and company before the interview, a few minutes spent typing the company's name into Google will be time very well spent. Read the company's about us page and any news articles you can find. Your interviewer will be impressed if you have some understanding of the company and its background

4. Re read through the job advertisement to remind yourself what the job involves and what the recruiter is looking for

5. Re read through your CV and have a good think about exactly why you think you'd be good for this job

Look Good, Feel Better
Rightly or wrongly, looks can make a difference, be smart and look professional. Think about the company you are applying to - how do your potential future colleagues dress for work? If you already look the part then you're on the way to fitting in at your desired new job!

Be on time!
Always keep in mind that you never get a second chance to make a first impression, so make sure you're prepared. Aim to arrive 20-25 minutes before your interview time, that way if your bus is late or you get stuck in traffic you'll still arrive on time. If you arrive early, you could wait nearby at a cafe or have a short walk round the area thinking about what you plan to say in your interview. Aim to report to reception exactly 10 minutes before your scheduled interview time.

Look them in the eyes and smile
Eye contact is one of the most important aspects while on your interview and can make a significant difference in how you present yourself. If you look away when speaking to someone, you are viewed as lacking confidence or not interested or being dishonest. So always answer the question with eye contact, and without glaring.

Be enthusiastic and positive
During your job interview always be enthusiastic. Do not be negative or mention any bad points about previous employers. Focus on positive achievements and views, always smile and be attentive.

What not to do in your job interview
As well as preparing for what you should do on a job interview, whether it's a part time job or that perfect next step on the career ladder, it is just as important that you know what not to do.

* Don't be late!

* Don't swear or use slang words.

* Don't slouch in your seat or do anything else that makes you look disinterested.

* Don't lie! The interviewer may see through you. Even if you get the job, your employer can dismiss you if they find out.

* Don't let your nerves show too much. It is normal to be nervous, but you can't let your nerves take over, as this will affect your performance. Use breathing techniques and try to remember that it's not a life and death situation; there are plenty of jobs out there.

* Don't be arrogant and assume you've got the job. Nothing turns off employers more than someone who is disrespectful and over-confident.

* Don't read from notes or your CV. You should be familiar enough with your own history to be able to talk about it unprompted.

* Don't argue with the interviewer, no matter what. Remember to keep things positive!

Top 4 questions asked at job interviews

1. Describe your strengths
It is almost guaranteed that on most job interviews you will be asked what you think your strengths are (and sometimes what you think your weaknesses / 'development areas' are too). You want to leave a positive impression in mind, so you will need to show that you are in the process of overcoming your weaknesses. Once thing is for sure, you need to have thought about this common interview question in advance so you know roughly what you will answer when asked it.

2. Why do you want this job?
Think carefully about this question. Stress the positive aspects, that have attracted you to applying for this job.
What qualities do you think will be required for this job?
Their advertisement for the job may help you a little bit, but you should also think of the other qualities that may be required. These may include leadership ability, supervisory skills, communication skills, interpersonal skills, problem solving, logical skills, etc.

3. What can you contribute to this job vacancy?
This is your chance to shine. Tell them about your achievements in your previous work that are relevant to the new position you are applying for.

4. Why do you want to work for this company?
Emphasise the positive reasons why you want to join their company, but avoid aspects such as more money or shorter hours. These may not endear you to a prospective employer. Stress opportunities for personal growth and new challenges.

Finally, don't give up your job hunt!
The fact is that you may not be offered every job, however perfect you think you may be for it.

If you do not get the job after an interview it is a good idea to run through the interview with someone and try to help them to identify any areas where you could have done better. There will be other opportunities in time and any failed interviews should be looked upon as part of a learning process.

Don't forget that performing well at an interview is a skill and it can be learnt and improved with help and practice. There are plenty of jobs about - the main thing is to find the right one for you!

Cruise Ship Vacancies - 3 Top Tips For Getting Your Application Noticed

By Neil Maxwell Keys

It's important to ensure that your application is unique when applying for cruise ship vacancies. The competition in this industry is fierce, so a dull, boring cover letter and resume won't get the attention you need.

If you don't take some time to make your application get noticed, then chances are yours will end up being thrown away before it's even read.

It's vital that your application actually gets to the right person. Unless it does, it's very unlikely it will be passed on, as cruise ship staff are extremely busy, so make sure you address it correctly to the person who does the hiring.

Learning some simple yet effective techniques can make all the difference and ensure your application not only reaches the right person but also gets opened and read.

All these will only increase your chances of being hired for any cruise ship vacancies you apply for!

Follow these 3 top tips to ensure your application gets noticed!

1. Give your resume/CV a creative title

If you're sending your resume by email don't give the document a bland title like 'yourname.doc' or 'resume.doc.'

This won't capture the attention of the recruiter and certainly won't stand out from the crowd.

Instead name your document creatively, using a title such as 'Steve Jones - IT Specialist.doc,' or 'Jane Smith - Experienced Beauty Consultant.doc.'

Alternatively, try using the cruise ship vacancy you are applying for in the title of your resume. 'Mike Green - Gift Shop Sales Assistant.doc,' or 'Catherine James - Internet Café Manager.doc.'

Use your creativity, consider what words will grab attention and use these to give a title to your resume/CV document.

You will immediately stand out from the other applicants, before your resume is even read, increasing your chances of getting hired for the cruise ship vacancy!

2. Send your resume by recorded delivery

All this involves is going to the Post Office and asking for it to be sent certified or recorded delivery.

When it reaches the recipient, they must sign a form to certify they have received it, guaranteeing your application has already been noticed!

Ensure it is addressed to the cruise line hiring manager, so it is him or her personally that must sign for it.

This gives you a big advantage because all mail for this department gets screened by several gate keepers before it actually reaches the hiring manager, so your application is guaranteed to reach it's intended destination and get opened and read before any of your competitors!

This technique will involve spending a couple of dollar but it will be a good investment!

3. Use the Post-It note technique

It's a little bit sneaky this one but is practically guaranteed to work!

Most mail received by cruise line companies is opened by an office assistant or a secretary, who is responsible for binning junk mail and screening the applications for candidates who don't meet the necessary requirements.

In order to grab attention, attach a Post-It note to the front of your resume saying something like 'This one is good! - J.'

Who cares who J is - the important thing is that it will get attention! A Post-It note with a message like this attached will mean the hiring manager will immediately take note and read your resume thoroughly instead of just giving it a brief glance.

You're not deceiving anybody, so don't let that concern you - it's not. It's simply an innovative and effective method of self-promotion!

Use these tips when you apply for any cruise ship vacancies to ensure your application is noticed, giving you an advantage over the other job seekers!

Don't Quit Your Job

By Randy Place

With jobs being slashed as the economy continues to go south, now is not the time to quit your job. Although most employees are trying to hold on to the jobs they have, many of you feel just the opposite. You are thinking about quitting because the pressures have become too much to bear.

If you're asking yourself, "when should I quit?" here's the answer. You need to think of resigning as a last resort. It should not be your first choice. Have you considered that your boss might not be aware of your feelings? You need to have a sit down to let her know about them.

Now you're offering your employer the opportunity to change the situation to your liking. When this happens, you don't have to resign after all.

Your boss might want to please you because companies have lost so many good employees from downswings, they want to hold on to the good workers who remain. That's why your boss will probably try do what he can in order to satisfy you needs in order to retain your good services.

On the other hand, what if your issue cannot be resolved? Now the answer to "when should I quit" becomes obvious. It now makes sense to think about quitting and get out of the pressure cooker.

With the job market as tight as it is, be sure you find another job before quitting. You get a big advantage by keeping on keeping on, even in a job you hate. That's because employers always feel better about hiring someone who is successfully employed than bringing on board someone who has been out of work and considered damaged goods.

Let's say you've followed these two steps -

You spoke to your boss and the request for help was denied.

You bit the bullet by staying on the job while looking for another job and have just received a nice offer.

The question, "how to resign a job?" will be answered in my next article here on Ezine.

Networking

What exactly is networking in job-seeking terms? Basically, it’s a group of people willing to offer their help in your job search.

Don’t be afraid to approach friends and family members. Remember they already know you and will be more than willing to keep an eye and ear out for you.

Don’t use networking as a last option. If possible, make networking a daily part of your personal and professional life. You’ll never know when you’ll need the help. It helps to keep an open mind of your network. Include friends, family, friends of family, step-family, etc. If possible, include even your local pastor, physician, dentist, accountant or attorney. Maintain positive relationships with people you meet at your workplace and retain their contact information. If you are part of a trade, being a member of your trade associate is also useful. This way, you meet other professionals in the same shoes as you. Even use your customers and, if possible, your competitors. Always do favors for people before asking them for anything.

You’ll have to learn to establish a reputation/name for yourself, which is what most job seekers would do in order to become available to employers. Attending professional events such as trade conventions or career fairs usually gets you face-to-face with executive search professionals. Once they see you taking initiative and interest in showing your credentials, they’ll feel more confident showing your resume to a hiring manager.

Don’t under estimate the power of the World Wide Web. The quickest way to get your name on the Internet is to get involved in discussion forms. Albeit you’re sharing your wisdom and knowledge with other professionals but you’ll be surprised how many executive recruiters and corporations are out hunting for professionals in discussion forms. This way, your name will begin to pop up in Internet searches.

Don’t neglect reaching out to people whom you may not know personally. Chances are they will be happy to help you and keep a look out for you once they know what you’re about. This way, you begin to view people as acquaintances not strangers.

Bear in mind that you don’t put anyone in an awkward position or compromise professional relationships. At the same time, approach people whom you feel you can trust. It takes some time but you’ll get used to it.

10 Tips On How To Write The Perfect Resume

By Aaron Brooks

A resume represents you in words and is the one that creates the first impression. So, a resume must be well thought of and written perfectly. According to experts in the field of human resources there are five basic concepts:

1. A resume must market your skills. It must highlight your qualifications and experience.

2. The resume must avoid focusing on the past and project what you are and your capabilities. It must be about “you” and not on your past.

3. The highlight must be on your plans for the future and how you intend to go about achieving your aims.

4. Instead of chronologically listing your job profiles the resume must emphasize with clarity your accomplishments.

5. The resume must reflect your skills and visions not just mundane everyday actions at work.

When sitting down to write or rewrite a resume, put yourself in the shoes of the person who will read the resume and either shortlist you or junk your application. Never use a standard resume for every job application. Rework the resume to “fit” the job you are applying for.

There are 10 vital steps that will help you create a perfect resume:

1. First read through the job vacancy profile carefully. Then create a “job objective.” This just means the position you are applying for.

2. Determine what skills, knowledge, and experience will suit the job best.

3. Create a short list of your qualifications and experience that will reflect that you are a suitable candidate for the post. That is you are capable of handling the proposed “job objective.”

4. Draw from your past experience and find accomplishments that prove you can shoulder the job responsibilities.

5. In the resume elaborate in brief accomplishments that highlight your abilities to handle the job you are applying for. Emphasize how your work benefited your employer.

6. Include in the resume a table listing the jobs you have held in chronological order. Begin with the most recent. Include student experience, summer placements, and projects undertaken gratis. Explain any time gaps.

7. List your educational qualifications especially those relevant to the job you are applying for.

8. Ensure that the format of the resume is consistent follow either the chronological or functional format. A template for a functional resume is at http://jobstar.org/tools/resume/tempfun.php and chronological is at: http://jobstar.org/tools/resume/tempchr.php.

9. Include a concise and crisp career objective at the beginning of the resume.

10. At the beginning include a summary of key points.

When in doubt surf the World Wide Web and read through resume tips and formats given by experts on sites like monster.com and Yahoo jobs .com.

A perfect resume is one that grabs the attention of the employer. It should be distinct from the thousands that will reach the employer’s desk. A winning resume is one that speaks volumes without shouting out loud of your abilities and strengths.

Write a resume. Then ask an impersonal outsider to vet it for you. If in doubt seek professional help.

Is Now a Good Time to Look For Job Vacancies on Cruise Ships?

By Jenny Claire

You might think with all the economic uncertainty and problems in the financial markets that now is not a great time to be searching for job vacancies on cruise ships. However almost alone amongst the foreign travel industry - cruises are defying the market and are more popular now than ever. There are more cruise liners operating all over the world than ever before and the demand for reliable skilled employees is rising all the time.

Most cruise liners now are pretty much comparable to floating five star hotels and offer a huge variety of facilities and entertainment to their passengers. This of course means that the variety of skills needed to look after thousands of guests is also greatly increased from just about every conceivable hospitality job through to IT support, nurses and admin roles most people can find an appropriate job vacancy on a cruise liner.

Working on a cruise liner has lots of benefits - you get to travel all over the world, all your bills and board are free, meet people from all over the world and generally makes your job into an adventure. However it is important to remember that these jobs are all hard work - cruise passengers can be extremely demanding and you have to be professional and courteous at all times. The discipline involved is much more than a normal job simply because when that ship sets sail everyone has to be relied on to do their job and keep the passengers happy.

Obviously you should be comfortable working at sea and unless you are very senior or an officer you will generally be required to share a cabin. The crews quarters are often quite small - so again if you're somebody who needs lots of their own space you might not enjoy this. Having said that you are usually able to use all the ships facilities when off duty so there is plenty of space for relaxing away from sleeping quarters.

Working on a cruise liner is certainly a fantastic experience but it's not for everyone - if you want to do 9-5 hours you'll be disappointed as everyone is expected to pitch in and do whatever is required. There is a great camaraderie though amongst most crews - with friendships made that often last a lifetime. You work hard but when you finish your contract you'll come back having met lots of new people, seen loads of new places and best of all an almost untouched salary sitting in your bank account!

If you are seriously looking for job vacancies on cruise ships there are some agencies that can help you out. This guide was written by a cruise ship recruiter which also gives you all the information you need to get your big adventure under way as quickly as possible. How to Answer Common Job Interview Questions

By Camilla Patten

So you have been invited to a Job Interview? Well done! You are halfway to finding your dream job. The next step in the job hunting process is preparing for the interview itself. After being invited to a job interview candidates need to knuckle down and practice ahead of time to knock the interview process out the park.

It is vital that you have prepared answers for frequently asked questions that you may be asked to answer. Frequently asked job interview questions are used to establish whether or not the job seeker does indeed possess the required skills set and experience relevant to the job vacancy.

Familiarise yourself with typical job interview questions as well as prepare appropriate answers to these questions in order to secure the ideal position. Common interview questions are also asked for further insight into your personality, ability to integrate into a new team as well as your business ethics and values. There is no specific structure in which such questions are administered, be sure to go though the following list of frequently asked job interview questions and answers to best prepare for your job interview.

INTERVIEWER QUESTION: Tell me about yourself? Job Seeker Response:

Although your first instinct might be to start by describing your interests and hobbies, remember where you are. You are in a job interview with the sole purpose of being hired. The information that you should detail when asked this question is to begin by describing yourself in a work situation. Prepare a summary of your work experience as well as your career achievements. Briefly detail your education accomplishments as well as any other accomplishment or transferable skills that are relevant to the job vacancy. Only once you have discussed information that is specific to the available position, should you then give a short explanation about your interests and character traits.

INTERVIEWER QUESTION: Describe your working experience?

Job Seeker Response:

Study your CV prior to your job interview and identify areas of your work experience that is specifically relevant to the job that you are being interviewed for. Search the job advert itself for hints and traces of details about what it is the employer is hoping to find in the ideal Job Seeker. Your answer should be concise and relevant; the recruiter has already seen your Curriculum Vitae and already has a good idea of your experience. Try to get the recruiter to specify what areas they would like you to discuss so as to avoid digressing off the topic with long winded explanations. The reason why the recruiter is asking this question even after having seen your CV application is because they want to hear how you would describe your experience verbally and to ensure that your verbal explanation is consistent with the information detailed in your CV.

INTERVIEWER QUESTION: What are your strengths and weaknesses?

Job Seeker Response:

Although this question may seem as though you should answer with a positive answer for your strengths and a negative for your weaknesses, try to give two positive answers. When discussing your strengths highlight roughly three positive attributes or strengths that specifically apply to the available post based on what you consider to be the recruiter's specific requirements. When indicating your weaknesses, never detail a character defect or poor performance areas that have no opportunity to be improved on. Rather, try to explain where you identified a problem area where you were able to remedy this and explain how you did so.

JOB SEEKER RESPONSES: Most common and typical job interview questions

How do you deal with conflict or criticism?

Always answer this frequently asked question with a positive approach. Explain where you may have experienced conflict in the workplace in the past and how you dealt with it. Explain in a positive light, how you managed this conflict and what you learnt from the experience. The job interviewer is looking to identify areas where you may experience a problem when working with difficult personalities and how well you handle negative situations and reverse them into positive ones. Never say never and always be open to the idea that you are willing and able to learn from each working experience - whether positive or negative.

What do you know about our company and why do you want to work here?

You will need to prepare for this typical job interview question far in advance in order to ensure that you are comfortable discussing the employers company. Don't be a know it all, you are talking with someone who may have been part of the company for several years and will know greater detail that you will. Never argue about details and be open to correction should you have interpreted research information incorrectly. When answering the reason for you wanting to join their establishment specify what interests you about the industry or company and how you feel you could contribute to its longevity. Express admiration and respect for the company and include an explanation as to what value you feel you will be able to bring to the company that other candidates may not be able to. Try to get a good understanding of the company's objective as well as their vision and mission and how you plan on sustaining this or improving on it, based on your relevant skills and attributes.

Describe a short term goal you have set for yourself and how you intend on achieving this goal?

A short term goal generally falls within a one to two year delivery period. The goals that you describe should be career focussed, based on areas where you would like to improve on a skill or achieve a qualification that will boost your career growth. When answering to how you intend on achieving these goals to the employer, never leave a door closed. Opportunity and drive is your number one objective in order to achieve any goal and this is why your explanation needs to be realistic and attainable within this short period. By displaying your enthusiasm and desire to succeed, this will indicate to the employer that you are a motivated and inspired employee.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

When answering this typical job interview question stay focussed on career goals and aspirations. Potential employers don't want to hear about your plans to 'Take over their company' nor your desire to become a pro golfer. Keep these career aspirations realistic and attainable within a 5 year period. Discuss ways in which you anticipate attaining your career goals as well as steps you have already taken to reach these career goals.

What are you looking for in a job?

This may seem like an easy common interview question to answer, it is in fact a tricky job interview question. While the interviewer is asking you what you are looking for in a job, in actual fact they want you to answer with what they are looking for from you. Again when preparing for this question, be sure to have the job ad close at hand in order to assess in precise detail what the recruiter is looking for in a candidate. Answer this question the way you think the interviewer wants you to answer it, by describing desires that the job you have applied for will be able to deliver to the candidate.

What are your salary requirements?

Prepare ahead of time prior to your job interview on how you intend on answering this question. A good place to start is to research the industry standard or market related salary that employees in similar roles are earning. Generally this information can be found on the internet or alternatively recruitment agents will be able to give you a good indication of your market related salary. In your interview, try not to discuss exact figures but rather give a ball park figure that you will be able to negotiate on later on should the employer makes you an offer. Never discuss your salary goals unless asked by the interviewer.

Do you have any questions?

When asked if you have any questions about the role or the organisation, always have a few questions prepared to ask the interviewer. By asking the interviewer well thought out and relevant questions, Job Seekers display eagerness and a keen interest in joining the organisation. As with the other typically asked job interview questions, research and prepare some typical interview questions for the recruiter. You will find tons of content and guidelines to assist in preparing ahead of time to ask the interviewer and display your interest in the company as well as joining the team.

As mentioned before there are no set structures to any job interview and every interview will be completely unique and different to your last. Preparing in advance and familiarising yourself with frequently asked job interview questions will give you the confidence you require in order to outshine any other candidate by emphasising your skills and accomplishment relevant to the job. Try to relax and remember to be yourself and the very best of luck in securing your dream job.

Job Search Tips - What's the Number 1 Impediment to Any Job Search?

By Stephen Van Vreede

ANSWER:

The Job Seeker

Ouch. I know it's exactly what job seekers don't want to hear, right? Instead you want to believe that you are doing all the right things, that you have invested your time and resources wisely. Instead you want to hear that the reason you haven't landed a position is because we are in tough economic times, that the holidays are approaching, and that the recruiter or resume writer you have been working with hasn't lived up to the hype.

Yes, it's true that we are in tough economic times, and yes, it is also true that the holidays do slow things down a bit. And of course recruiters and resume writers play a significant role in the job search process.

But who's guiding this ship anyway? The economy, the time of year, the recruiter, the resume writer, or you?

Well, if you want to be successful, it better be you! And you better have a game plan.

Listen, the job search process is nothing more than a sales negotiation. So start thinking of it like one...

• Identify market strengths/weaknesses and develop a strategy for using them to your advantage.
• Know how much time you have and where to spend it.
• Key in on a niche market. The more focused, the better.
• Follow-up and follow-through. Many job opportunities are lost for this very reason.
• STOP spending so much time on the Internet and get out there!

And whatever you do, stop feeling sorry for yourself! So when you hear yourself blaming the economy or the government or whatever else seems to be in the way, stop it!

The sales rep who goes around feeling sorry for themselves or spews forth bitterness is seldom successful.

I have spent years guiding job seekers through the swampland, and there is only one obstacle that we have found that we cannot overcome: the job seeker's inability to take control of his or her search.

We have wrestled through job search coaching sessions. We have tried desperately to get people to follow our No-Nonsense approach (because we know it works!). But for some reason, job seekers like to think that if they just throw their resume out there, talk to a recruiter or two, or make a call here and there, then they can just sit back and wait for something to happen.

I seriously hope that people are not performing like this on their jobs!

Ask any sales person or small business owner. We wouldn't have much success if we just waited for the opportunities to roll in. A phone call, a resume posting, a conversation with a recruiter...those are all good starts, but they are hardly much of a job search.

Do you know that most job seekers don't even know how much time they have to devote each week, much less each day to a search?

Yet when that 40-day mark hits and they still don't have an offer, what do job seekers do? They start blaming everyone else.

C'mon! Cut that out. Put a plan together and set the proper expectations today!

Get armed. Get ready. And go!

So who am I anyway? Why do I think my advice is so valuable?

My name is Stephen Van Vreede. My company is called No Stone Unturned, and I have been in the career consulting business since 2002 with 8 years of hiring experience prior to that. You can check out my website at http://www.nostoneunturnedllc.com

As I mentioned, I paid my dues in the corporate world eventually running a large-scale call center for a major truck rental company, and I have spent the past 6 years with No Stone Unturned, assisting job seekers in achieving their goals.

I know that my products will work for you because they are based on commonsense principles leveraged with good, solid expertise and knowledge of the job search process. After working with countless job seekers, I have become more and more convinced that most of them do not properly prepare for a job search and rely way too much on online sites and trendy articles to tell them what to do. Thus, they waste a lot of time, money, and energy.

It's Time to Leave Your Job When
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jeffrey_Hauser]Jeffrey Hauser

I've been working in some capacity since I was twelve. I began delivering newspapers in the neighborhood, was a stock boy at a local children's clothing store, and did various jobs throughout college. I began full-time employment when I graduated in 1970 and have worked ever since. My last job lasted nearly 25 years. Since college, I've been in advertising and marketing, which matched my degree. It had its ups and downs, but was mostly economically rewarding and emotionally satisfying. Every workday, I would get up and think about what the business world would hold for me in the next several hours. For the most part, it was something to which I looked forward.

But there were other factors involved. My coworkers were also my friends, to a large extent. Many were people with whom I socialized. Then there was the working conditions. This company provided the latest computers and Internet access, fax machines and my cell phone. I had a nice office with a view from the third floor, a lunch room, and covered parking. I received a generous car allowance and many other perks. Because I was in commissioned sales, I was often given bonuses or "spiffs" as incentives along with awards and trips to places like Hawaii, for outstanding performance. I had a terrific compensation package including all my insurance, 401K and pension plans. You might say I was spoiled and had nothing to complain about and you would be right.

So, why did I dread the job on certain days? Sure, I had to go to mandatory all- day meetings where I listened to statistical reports that were boring ad nausea, but so what? Lots of employees are dragged into meetings. Other days, I had to face irate clients or long drives to customers that rarely bought anything. Yet, that's all part of a salesman's lot. So, why were there days when I wanted to do anything but go to work? Okay, I'm a bit of a whiner, but who isn't? So, getting back to my topic, what are the real warning signs that maybe it's time for a change of job scenery?

It's more than dreading meetings, facing your boss, or hoping for more pay. It's an attitude. Here are some basic warning signs that may have you rethinking your employment.

It's time to leave your job when...

(1) You begin having anxiety attacks when you merely think of having to go to work.

(2) You constantly complain about the tiniest work-related issue to friends, family or anyone that will pay attention.

(3) Nights and weekends are the only time you appear genuinely happy.

(4) You notice you are having more and more illnesses preventing you from working, or

(5) You get frequent headaches at the workplace.

(6) You find excuses to pick fights with coworkers.

(7) You have evil thoughts about your boss.

(8) You resent the company for almost no reason other than it's there.

(9) You invent reasons why the product or service you sell are faulty.

(10) The job is never satisfying on any level.

(11) As you drive to work, you concoct reasons why this day will be the worse day of your life.

(12) You are convinced that a vengeful God placed you in this position.

The bottom line is that there is no use being miserable. Just as if you were in a lousy marriage, it's time to consider a divorce, in this case, from your job. You are probably thinking that it's easier said than done. You're right, but life is too short to be stuck in a place you hate. It's time to grab the want ads and rethink your future. You be happier, less ill, and have more to look forward to each and every day. Remember, there is always a better job out there somewhere just waiting for you if you're willing to seek it out.

Jeffrey Hauser was a sales consultant for the Bell System Yellow Pages for nearly 25 years.
He graduated from Pratt Institute with a BFA in Advertising and has a Master's Degree in teaching. He had his own advertising agency in Scottsdale, Arizona and ran a consulting and design firm, ABC Advertising. He authored a book about his directory years, "Inside the Yellow Pages" which can be seen at his website, http://www.poweradbook.com and he is officially retired.

Getting a Job Without a College Degree

When Does The Job Hunt Begin?

What is the level of education that one needs to acquire before seeking a job? Should it be after graduating from high school or is a college degree essential before seeking employment?

Looking at some of the statistics that are pertinent to the issue, we find that less than 43 percent of students complete high school - out of which only about half enroll in college. This data pertains to the year 2003 and 2004 as reported by the National Center for Education.

Many Jobseekers Do Not Possess a College Degree

Considering the data above, it becomes apparent that a big portion of job hunters do not have a college degree. Therefore, the fact is that a good job can be had without a college degree.

When a candidate has the knowledge, skills and the right attitude and drive to excel, there is no dearth of opportunities to land good jobs.

What Is A Good Job?

Usually, the answer most people would give is that a good job is one that carries a fat salary and moves you high into the social bracket. However, this is not the right answer for describing a "good job". In reality, a good job is one that you find pleasure and delight in going to each working day of your life.

Applying these standards, numerous jobseekers may be holding 'good jobs'. The inevitable result is dissatisfied individuals who harbor a deep sense of disillusionment, even if they are able to get good salaries.

In reality, job satisfaction comes from doing a job that is in line with your passion in life, something you seriously believe in - and not the salary that it gets you. Therefore, the main criteria in selecting a job should be looking at what you enjoy doing and what you make in terms of money, rather than going for something that pays well and trying to force yourself into liking it.

The Advantage of College Education

The decision to go through college is a personal one - and honestly speaking, college education does open up avenues of high-end, knowledge-based employment, and is certainly desirable for anyone seeking to be intellectually empowered.

The real point here is that even without a college degree, there are plenty of jobs available that can allow a person to pursue a very fulfilling and satisfying career.

Deciding What You Want To Do

With so much competition and a plethora of jobs on the scene, it becomes very difficult to decide which way to go if you have not devoted time from your early years towards selecting the career you would like to pursue.

If you find this difficult, then you should complete a career assessment to determine what careers would fit with your personal characteristics and motivations. An employment counselor can also be of great help.
