Don't Quit Your Job

By Randy Place

With jobs being slashed as the economy continues to go south, now is not the time to quit your job. Although most employees are trying to hold on to the jobs they have, many of you feel just the opposite. You are thinking about quitting because the pressures have become too much to bear.

If you're asking yourself, "when should I quit?" here's the answer. You need to think of resigning as a last resort. It should not be your first choice. Have you considered that your boss might not be aware of your feelings? You need to have a sit down to let her know about them.

Now you're offering your employer the opportunity to change the situation to your liking. When this happens, you don't have to resign after all.

Your boss might want to please you because companies have lost so many good employees from downswings, they want to hold on to the good workers who remain. That's why your boss will probably try do what he can in order to satisfy you needs in order to retain your good services.

On the other hand, what if your issue cannot be resolved? Now the answer to "when should I quit" becomes obvious. It now makes sense to think about quitting and get out of the pressure cooker.

With the job market as tight as it is, be sure you find another job before quitting. You get a big advantage by keeping on keeping on, even in a job you hate. That's because employers always feel better about hiring someone who is successfully employed than bringing on board someone who has been out of work and considered damaged goods.

Let's say you've followed these two steps -

You spoke to your boss and the request for help was denied.

You bit the bullet by staying on the job while looking for another job and have just received a nice offer.

The question, "how to resign a job?" will be answered in my next article here on Ezine.
